Kyle Burkhardt, president of the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island, will step into the ring on Nov. 20 as a boxer in the 14th annual Long Island Fight for Charity, the nation’s only all-volunteer charity boxing event.

“I decided to volunteer to help less fortunate families on Long Island,” said Burkhardt, a Senior Director in the Melville office of Cushman & Wakefield. The fight, he said, provides a “great opportunity” for him to give back to the community after the community stepped up to help the family of his late brother who died of brain cancer, leaving a wife and two young children.

Burkhardt, 34, will square off against Mike Signorelli of Heavy Hitters Boxing Gym in Ronkonkoma.

“This is an opportunity to give back to our community and get back into shape while doing so.” Burkhardt said he decided to participate after speaking to event founder Jeff Cohen at a networking event.

The matches, to be held at Hilton Long Island, 598 Route 110, Melville, raise funds for those in need from the Long Island community. Charities supported by the Long Island Fight for Charity include the Long Island Community Chest, Genesis School, National Foundation for Human Potential (FREE) and more. Since its founding in 2003, Fight for Charity has raised over $1.1 million to directly assist individuals in need and to support local charities that serve adults and children with special needs.

Charity boxers, such as Burkhardt, some with little or no experience, have been training and fundraising for months. He said people are surprised about his participation. “Once I explained to everyone that it has been a passion of mine to do something like this, they are really supportive.”

Tickets for the Main Event are available online. VIP Tickets and reserved seating cost $250. General tickets cost $135.  More than 20 local restaurants will provide food and beverages for the event, organizers noted. For more information on Fight for Charity and sponsorship opportunities, visit or email or call (877) 240-7821.
