President's Welcome

Happy New Year

A Message from Kyle Burkhardt, President of CIBS

As I settled into my new role as President of the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society (CIBS), I reflect back on how I originally became involved in the organization over 10 years ago.  When I first joined CIBS, I quickly realized that it was not only a way to network with brokers but also a way to meet prominent local attorneys, accountants, landlords, and developers.  In addition, it became clear to me that by developing relationships with my fellow brokers I had a much higher probability of closing deals – the better the relationship, the more collaboration in making a deal come to fruition.

In taking a closer look at the board members and past presidents, I realized that the list represented every successful broker in our market. CIBS was the platform I needed to get closer to these individuals, learn from them and hopefully follow their footsteps.

Furthermore, I realized that the best way to ensure that I was active in our local business community was to be on the CIBS Board.  I quickly volunteered for the golf committee and ran for the board shortly thereafter.  Now, as the youngest president in the organization’s history, I’m honored and humbled to have been elected by my peers to this prestigious position.

Going forward, our Board is working to increase the “CIBS” brand awareness and to raise our profile as Long Island’s largest commercial real estate brokers group. We view this a major benefit to our broker members as well as our associate members.  Another initiative is to continue our support of the many deserving non-profit groups on Long Island.  We’re currently working with IGHL (Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc.) to assist them in expanding their outreach in the community.

We also look forward to our new commitment to Family Services League and doing our part to help them build a new facility in Bay Shore.  This new facility will enable them to help even more local families in need.

I want to thank our entire board for all their hard work and for volunteering their valuable time to better our business community.

I look forward to seeing you all at one of our many upcoming social and educational events.

Sincerely,
Kyle Burkhardt

Commercial Industrial Broker Society of Long Island

CIBS was formed in 1993 out of the shared belief among the region’s leading brokers that the region needed a unified voice to advocate on behalf of professionalism, ethics and industry cohesion.  Since its formation, CIBS has helped upgrade the industry by offering hundreds of educational programs, seminars, and presentations; advocated professional standards and offered grievance resolution; provided informal mentoring relationships; raised tens of thousands of dollars for local charities; and created social settings in which colleagues have become friends, and competitors respected peers.
